The conversation draws a few equals from the discoveries of Fields and Emshwiller (2014) corresponding to the more broad impacts of captures. Nonetheless, in contrast to the conversation, Fields and Emshwiller have supported up their discoveries with increasingly solid statistical data points identifying with the normal training accomplishment and the monetary status of the suspects or convicts at 25 years old. For example, as indicated by Fields and Emshwiller (2014), 21% of people captured by 23 will possess a home; 15% of casualties of captures who are cleared by courts will claim a home; and 10% of survivors of capture and conviction will claim a home at 25. A critical part of obscure hazard is outcomes that can't be foreordained; through they effectsly affect flexibly chain of an association. For instance, quake is a kind of obscure hazard, which happened in Japan on March 11 2010 prompting the demolition of foundations that bolstered flexibly chain in the nation. The Mise
The Mise-en-Scene and Camerawork Essay Dissect the Effects Created for the Spectator by the Mise-en-Scene and Camerawork in the Sequence Lynns Bedroom LA Confidential, coordinated by Curtis Hanson and co-delivered by Brian Helgeland, is a neo-noir film taking a gander at debasement and promulgation affected by the press (Hush magazine) certain parts of the police power and the high society impact of Mickey Cohen on the Sunset Strip. It just depicts certain components of Film Noir and in a serious present day design when it does. There isn't a lot of smoking in LA Confidential as maybe there is in most Film Noir, anyway we figure out how to get a few components of dissatisfaction and suspicion. The femme fatale in this film doesn't observe the typical principles of a customary femme fatale despite the fact that could well be persuaded that she does, towards the start. Lynn Bracken originally presented wearing a dark shroud with a white trim around the hood encompassing her face. Early introductions recommend that she could be our femme fatale, as dark is a shade of defilement and secret. We will compose a custom article on The Mise-en-Scene and Camerawork explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now We additionally go over her habitation a huge studio-type room, white and stylised. It mirrors the foundation that we would find in a big name photograph shoot. The bed we see is in the living room, which appears to us a bizarre spot for it to be. It is raised up and on a hard, dark, wooden stage-like square. The spreads are glossy silk and rich recommending a practically phony environment and making a spot where no one could truly act naturally. There are plants out of sight, however they are green and spiky and have no blossoms. This proposes considerably to a greater degree a phony climate and dishonesty in the room. The remainder of this succession and the mise-en-scene included depicts no specific sentiment of solace. It is caused to look and to feel organized as everything from camerawork and lighting, to the props on the set pass on a chilly, awkward and un-simple picture and everything is made extremely lavish and delicate. It is practically similar to the famous actor Lynn Bracken is mimicking. In the second dare to Lynns house we see her releasing a client followed by apathetically cleaning up her studio-type room. This is just the second time we have seen it and the first occasion when it was appeared, was giving us a general foundation on her instructing us that she is a Veronica Lake look-a-like whore. There is a thump on the entryway and she goes to open it. We see her response went for some time before the camera slices to who she is taking a gander at and we understand it is Bud White. We at that point move onto the following part if the scene, straight into her room. This is the place the mise-en-scene comes without hesitation and we get familiar with Lynn as an individual. Lynn makes the way for the room and straight away we see a delicate, orange, sentimental and plain light creation the room warm and welcoming and moderate, delicate and delicate music starts to play permitting us to feel the sentimentalism of this personal scene. She remains back and permits him to stroll ahead and take in his environmental factors, this suggesting she isn't working at this point. She looks practically untainted as she stands just past the entryway, and as Bud stroll ahead the picture is made of her letting him take control and we can see that he depicts a dad type figure. The camera slices to another point currently indicating us the room, which Bud has been welcomed into. Our early introductions are that it is a little room like somebody really lives there and isn't only for appear. We see pictures in edges of blossoms on the divider, indicating a girlie and ordinary side to Lynn. It additionally discloses to us something about her preferences. These photos complexity to the photographs of Veronica Lake in her other room. The bed is regularly American with the genuine white iron bedposts, possibly not the most classy, anyway it permits us to see her simple and warm side. .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 , .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .postImageUrl , .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 , .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:hover , .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:visited , .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:active { border:0!important; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:active , .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:hover { murkiness: 1; progress: mistiness 250ms; webkit-progress: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relat ive; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe range: 3px; content adjust: focus; content beautification: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .ub41c6b 684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .ub41c6b684183567c0a27a3a42805b3a1:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Marion Isaac McClinton: tuning in for the music EssayWe can see net drapes, this recommending softness and giving little beams of light access to her room, this identifying with Bud. There is a light remained on a decent wooden bedside table. The camera slices to a nearby perspective panning shot. Most importantly on the table where we can intently observe little mis-coordinating desert plants on a plate, informing us perhaps something regarding her and her experience or where shes from. This is all close by some cooking books and a wooden cut light, with a fairly simple doily positioned flawlessly underneath it. Proposing perhaps her grandma had made, everything adding further to the unattractiveness and solace of her room. The camera skillet further across to the bed where there are cotton sheets, not at all like the moviestar silk sheets in Lynns studio, these cotton sheets retain and absorb the climate encompassing this room rather that cruelly reflecting it back as do the glossy silk pads in the studio. This continues fortifying how typical she is. We see a custom made pad on the bed, this letting us know as a group of people and to Bud, that she is a standard nation young lady from Arizona as this is what is hand weaved on the pad. This is significant for us to know, as we would now be able to assume that the Lynn Bracken, who lives in this room, is totally unique in relation to the Veronica Lake look-a-like that we have recently met. Out of sight to this we can see the botanical designed pads in pinks and yellows. These are extremely warm and simple hues, consequently recommending to us that this I s a warm and unattractive spot prevented from claiming all defilement that would happen in Lynns Veronica Lake room. Lynn goes to plunk down on the bed and brings down her head as though she is embarrassed, since she has demonstrated Bud her genuine self. Bud comforts her by kissing her temple and grasping her, which, is very dad and youngster like conduct, relating back to prior when she initially let him into her room. This hence turns around her typical conduct in these circumstances as for the most part she would be the individual in control, anyway when we see her letting Bud take control, it just helps us considerably more to remember the complexity between her work character and her genuine character. As they kiss and she lays back on the bed, the bars of the now divide us as the watcher and them suggesting that we are currently being meddling and this is excessively close to home and private for us to see. We currently start to understand that Bud and Lynn are two harmed spirits and have discovered each other in this private and delicate second. This scene is made important by its solid differentiation to the show-Veronica Lake-room. All in all we can see that through mise-en-scene Lynn Brackens two totally different sides and lives can be appeared. It is all basically outlined in props and landscape extraordinarily dispensed to enable the crowd to evoke their own significant points of view. Hence making the remainder of the film progressively important in itself and permitting the crowd to comprehend it better.

SIPA Love Stories It was hard to recognize you with clothes on COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog
SIPA Love Stories It was hard to recognize you with clothes on COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog Heres our fourth love story of the week. Is it a racy as the headline suggests? Ill let you figure that answer out yourself. Enjoy! Carole and Matthews SIPA love story: âSo how does a SIPA girl stumble across one of these rare finds, you may ask? Surely one cannot plunge blindly into the APAM corridors, where a new female presence is immediately detected and where half of the lab doors are labeled âRadioactive: Do Not Enterâ. Another challenge is that these scientists often hide their fascinating personalities under an external screen of shyness â" which although endearing, complicates the first approach. Here comes the second secret: meet the man outside of the lab, preferably in a more relaxed environment. I chose Uris Pool, which comes with two additional advantages: first, you may have a higher chance of catching the eye of the man in question if you glide by in a swimsuit rather than wandering the corridors of his department looking lost (and fully clothed); and second, sharing a lane in the pool means crossing each-other over and over again, providing repeated opportunities for striking up casual conversation even for the shyest among u s. Now to be perfectly truthful, I am quite shy myself and not really as scheming as it may appear. Rather, mutual shyness made Matt and I swim in the same lane, at least three times a week every lunchtime, for about six months without exchanging more than polite pleasantries. âOh, Iâm doing kicks now, Iâll be slower, you firstâ; âNo no, you first, Iâm switching to breast-strokeâ. But eventually, in May 2010 it happened â" on the first stormy day of the sticky New York summer, after a memorable downpour, we met at the gates of 116th and Broadway for coffee. âIt was hard to recognize you with clothes onâ. A killer pick-up line, but I wouldnât recommend trying it in too many other situations. As it was, when he said that I just remember noticing how the very dark grey of the sky matched his gorgeous eyes. Weâve been caught in somewhat of a whirlwind since that coffee on a Riverside Park bench (during which, I admit, I oh-so-charmingly choked on a chocolate chip cookieâ¦) We now live in Paris and have travelled to multiple countries together, but one place will always remain particularly dear to us: Uris Pool on the Columbia campus.â â" Carole, â11SIPA and Matthew, PhD, â13APAM Find the entire Love Stories collection in Columbia Alumni Associations Facebook album.

Get a Free JavaScript Download
Unlike other languages that can be used in a web browser, JavaScript doesnt need to be downloaded and installed. Browsers that support JavaScript have it built into the browser, where it is turned on by default (meaning that typically, youll need to change your browser settings only if you dont want the browser to run JavaScript). The only exception is that Internet Explorer also supports vbScript the same way, and the two languages are controlled via settings called active scripting rather than a setting that reference JavaScript specifically. What you will need to download with JavaScript, then, is not the scripting language itself, but rather those scripts that you want to run in your web page (assuming that you have decided not to learn JavaScript so you can write it all yourself). JavaScript Downloads Are Free There is no need to pay for scripts written in JavaScript, because just about any script imaginable is available somewhere as a free JavaScript download. What you need to be careful of, though, is to obtain them from a site that is actually offering the scripts as a free download, rather than just copying the scripts from any site. JavaScript code that performs any significant task will be subject to copyright, so you will permission from the author to use his or her script. The task the JavaScript is doing is not able to be copyrighted, however, so if you are writing a script yourself, you cant get into trouble for looking at an existing script to see how the programmer did it and then writing your own version. But if you are just looking for free JavaScript downloads, then you should go to a site where the author specifically states that his or her script is available as a free download and can be used on your site. There are many sites that offer free JavaScript downloads, including several huge sites that only offer JavaScript downloads, as well as other sites (such as this one) that offer free JavaScript downloads and also have tutorials on how to write the scripts for yourself. Advantages of Getting Free JavaScript Downloads Apart from avoiding copyright issues, there are other advantages to getting your free JavaScript downloads from a site that is actively offering the scripts. The main one is that such sites usually provide step-by-step instructions on how to actually install and use the script. Where you just grab a script from anywhere, not only are you stealing a script but also you wont get instructions on how to install it or support if you cant get it to work. Another thing to watch for when you are getting your free JavaScript downloads from an appropriate site is that many of these sites have been in existence for many years, and the way that JavaScript should be used has changed over time. In many cases, youll find scripts that were written many years ago to work on the most popular browsers available at that time -- browsers that are now long gone. Ideally, you should have at least some familiarity with what is currently considered the best way of writing JavaScript, so that you can choose the version that will work best with current browsers. You cant really blame the sites offering scripts that are not up to date. It does take time to code and test JavaScripts to make sure that they work correctly with the wide range of browsers in common use today. Having a somewhat dated script that still works available as a free download is certainly better than not having the script available at all. The biggest sites specializing in free JavaScript downloads usually offer scripts written by a lot of different people, and they rely on someone actually writing a new version of a script before they can offer it for download. Other sites that have their own staff to write and test scripts may have limited resources for being able to create updated versions of scripts, and so they may be offering older scripts until they can make updates. Updating Free JavaScripts One thing to remember when you obtain free JavaScripts for your site is that theres no reason to continue running the same version of the script forever. When a more modern version of the script is made available as a free download, you can always update your page and replace the old script with the new one. This is particularly easy where the new version of the script is offered as a direct replacement for the script you are currently using, but it shouldnt be all that hard even if you get it from a completely different source. The number and variety of scripts offered for free downloadà meanà that no matter what sort of JavaScript you want to add to your page, you should be able to find several sites offering one or more variations on such scripts. Only when you get to the stage where you require a script that directly interacts with custom code within your web page (such as for form field validation) will you be unable to find a free JavaScript download that does everything for you without your having to code any of it yourself. Even in such situations, you should be able to find free downloads that provide you with pieces of code that will do at least a part of what you need, along with instructions on how to attach such code fragments together to do what you require. Even those who move on to writing their own JavaScript rather than relying on pre-written free downloads can make use of free downloads. Along with complete scripts for performing a variety of simple tasks, there are also code libraries available as free downloads that will provide common functionality that will make writing your own JavaScript much easier. For those want to learnà to program, one of the biggest advantages of JavaScript is that it is all free. You dont need to pay for anything to get started.à The JavaScript languageà itself is built into all the browsers you need forà testing the scripts, and there are plenty of free JavaScript downloads of complete scripts and libraries that you can either use as is or examine to see how things work in order to write your own code.

AKylie Conner Matt Scarola Spencer Muratides Mr. Cavallo, LAA has been growing rapidly over the past few years, and sample size has grown to an average of 5000 a day that need processing. Last Friday, July 8th, you expressed concerns about our central labs capacity issues and meeting demand. We will write a custom essay sample on Laboritorio de Analysis Argentina or any similar topic only for you Order Now Some of our key success factors that give LAA a competitive edge are our commitment to 24-hour delivery performance standard, wide variety of test services, and superior test reliability. In the following text, we have supplied you with a detailed analysis of our current demand, capacity, and the issues we are facing as a company. We have also provided suggestions to the problems. Analysis: In exhibit 1, we have broken down the activities at LAA and placed them into a flow chart. You can visually see where each process lies in the entire system. We have also listed major resources required at each process, labor. LAAââ¬â¢s central lab is worked 2 eight-hour shifts. Each fulltime employee works 8 hours per day on average. Going over 40 hours a week results in overtime. Part-time employees work an average of 4 hours per day. 1. Sample Collection (Onsite, other labs LAA, external labs): 50 nurses 2. Processing: 2 fulltime employees and 2 part-time employees across 2 shifts. 3. Separation: 2 fulltime employees and 3 part-time employees. 4. Distribution: 1fulltime employees and 2 part-time employees across 2 shifts. 5. Testing: 180 fulltime employees and 15 part-time employees 6. Communication: 16 fulltime employees and 4 part-time employees, 10 per shift. 7. Storing and post test handling: 2 fulltime employees and 1 part-time across 2 shifts. Please refer to the excel document in exhibit 2 to see a full breakdown of LAAââ¬â¢s capacity available at each process, as well as the minimum, average, and maximum demand at each stage. As you can see, at many processing steps, our capacity is not meeting demand. Suggestions Demand variability of the process seems to hinder overall production. Whenever LAA receives a demand greater than 4,666, (the capacity of out bottleneck) we cannot process these orders in 24 hours, which is one of our key factors of success. These 4,666 tests are lower than the average daily demand that LAA receives, thus creating a major supply constraint. In order to relieve this constraint in the short run, we would suggest you limit the number of tests that are allowed to be tests at the central lab to 4,666 tests and reallocate the excess tests to external LAA labs. For LAA lab operations to meet the average demand, we would suggest reallocating workers from the processes with excess capacity. Separation Solution: Take a part time employee from Distribution (4 hours) and move to separation. Distribution new capacity: 9230 Separation new capacity: 2660 Test Solution Take 2 full time employees from communication and put them into testing Communication new capacity: 7680 Testing new capacity: 9096 *We redirected labor from Communication and not Storage because the Storage only had 3 workers (2 Full time, 1 Part Time) and moving one of these full time workers prevented the Storage Department from meeting demand; whereas Communication had 20 workers (16 Full time, 4 Part Time) and can spare full time workers and still meet demand. Cost of reallocation solution: A reallocation of workers would mean increasing the training of these workers so that they could perform their new tasks, taking away time and resources. Application of RFID on Jewellary Company-Free-Samples for Students
Question: Discuss about the Application of RFID on Jewellary Company. Answer: Introduction Jewellery is considered to be one of the most valuable possessions of people and so there lies a potential threat to the jewellery companies in terms of security and policy breaches. A stringent jewellery management system can be regarded as the need of an hour. This gives rise to the incorporation a more upgraded and advanced technology in the jewellery management industry. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Devices) technology is one such advanced technology that can be helpful in creating a more secure and simpler solution for jewellery management (Ahson and Ilyas 2017). In this report, the applications of RFID in the jewellery companies are elaborated in detail also the report draw a strong light on the various security issues and the possible solutions to these problems. Discussion Application of RFID in jewellery management In the present date, the jewellery industry is prone to number of hurdles. Some of the situations that can arise in the jewellery company are the misplacement of the valuables, risk of theft, more time consuming and possibility of erroneous outputs, slow tracking of inventory leading to huge lose. Incorporation of RFID technology in the jewellery industry can serve as a possible solution of these issues. Implementation of RFID technology in jewellery tracking will results in an efficient multi-scanning and faster stock update, which in turn can enhance the companys productivity. The real-time monitoring system with the help of the RFID technology helps in tracking of the goods in regular basis tightening the security process (Nikparvar, Sadeghi-Niaraki and Azari 2014). Other applications of RFID in the jewellery industry includes less manpower resulting in zero error, easy auditing of the in-store goods, easy tracking of the valuables, providing better service, detection of illegal m ovements of the precious items. Security issues Although the RFID technology is considered to be superior compared to the other identifications methods or devices but it is vulnerable to various types of attacks. The possible security issues of the RFID technology in the jewelley industry can be addressed as the attacks affecting the hardware part of the RFID, attacks affecting the communication part of RFID and the attacks which can affect the data support system of RFID (Fan et al. 2015). This in turn can hamper the integrity and availability of the company also the confidential information of the companies can be at risk. RFID hardware part The tag and the reader are the two main edge hardware parts of RFID system. These physical parts of the RFID are prone to certain vulnerabilities due to the security weakness in these hardware parts. RFID communication part The communication part of the RFID is responsible for swapping of the information. Attackers can hack the radio links and this can pose risk to the confidential information. After hacking the attacker can modify the signal giving away erroneous or wrong information (Fan et al. 2014). RFID data support part The data support part is an essential for ensuring connection between the RFID reader and the database. This part is equally prone to the attacks. Security breaches According to the scholars, in RFID applications a security breach can lead to the leakage of confidential information about the company to unauthorized agencies or parties (Kitsos, 2016). As the RFID technology is based on the extracting of information from the RFID reader, there lies a possibility of security breach in the process. Taking into consideration the supply chain management system such security breach can pose a huge risk. Possible information regarding the inventory levels, trading partners, future business plans can be gathered by the unauthorized sources. It is also observed that in certain situations sharing of the RFID information within the buyers and the suppliers but even this may lead to security breach (Dominguez-Pry, Ageron, and Neubert 2013). Possible solutions to the security issues and security breaches of RFID technology The following are some of the possible solutions that address the problems related to the security issues of the RFID technology in jewellery management: Destroying the tag Each tag is assigned with a unique code. In case a tag is suspected a threat, the tag can be deactivated which will reduce the risk. Cryptographic methods This method can be incorporated to make the RFID system more encrypted. Cryptographic algorithms in the form of primary key and symmetric key can make the system more secure (Ray, Abawajy and Chowdhury 2014). Isolation of the tag In case of a suspected threat the tag can be isolated from the EM waves. Protocols such as ALOHA are applied in this approach (Sari 2014). Strategies such as using protocols that can make the outputs unrecognizable to the attackers, making tags indistinguishable can be adopted. Conclusion In conclusion it can be said that RFID technology can provide with large number of benefits in the jewellery industries such as enhancing the productivity, security, streamlining the supply chain management process of the Jewellery industry but there also lies loopholes in the RFID technology. Although the RFID technology is one of the most sought after technological solution in the present date but still there lies potential threat to the security. If all the possible threats can be addressed with proper solution RFID technology can prove to be success. Information Technology Management
Questions: 1. Steps the company took to prepare for the disaster.2. Process in which the company resolved the situation.3. Identify the disaster and potential side effects. Answers: 1. Steps the company took to prepare for the disaster Vic Soria, the network administrator, appointed by Causeway Medical Associates had taken the following steps for preparing for any catastrophe: Backups for all business data were taken (Holley, 2014). A duplicate set of the backup data was taken in a manner such that Vic could easily resume operations from any remote location using it. The electrical equipment was detached from all electrical wirings, so as to secure them from short circuits. 2. Process in which the company resolved the situation The backups for all business data were maintained in the main system. Besides this, Vic had already prepared a duplicate of all the data backups in a manner such that he could easily start working from the condominium in South Miami: arrangements were such made that the entire system could start operating within 12 hours from any disastrous situation. This very preplanning helped the organization in resuming work within two days after the storm, irrespective of the fact that the hurricane had affected the office building in a severe manner (Brender Markov, 2013). The backup data allowed them to pick up from where they had stopped, and eventually helped them in gaining more clients. 3. Identify the disaster and potential side effects Hurricane Andrew, being a category five storm had the potential of destroying the entire building that held the office of Causeway Medical Associates. Such being the scenario, the organization would have lost all their business data, resulting in a huge financial loss, in case the backups for all data had been taken by Vic. Depending upon the severity of the data loss, the organizational heads might have had to start operations from a scratch (Holley, 2014). Recommendations The higher management of Causeway Medical Associates are being recommended so as to use cloud services for backing up all their data. The network administrator of Causeway Medical Associates are being recommended to communicate the disaster recovery plan with all the employees of the organization such that all of them are capable of participating in it efficiently. Eyewitness Auschwitz free essay sample
During the attempted extermination of the entire Jewish population, many Jewish prisoners were ordered to assist in the killing of their own people. Sonderkommandos were a major part of this eradication. A sonderkommando aided in the disposal of the corpses that were victims to the gas chambers. Through the vivid testimony by Filip Muller, ââ¬Å"Eyewitness Auschwitzâ⬠allows the reader to fully understand the difficulties and graphic situations that occurred daily at Auschwitz. Filip Muller was born on January 3, 1922 in Sered, Czechoslovakia. In 1942 at the age of 20, he was deported to the death camp. He was one of the few Sonderkommandos to have survived Auschwitz. The memoir greatly details the resilience of the human spirit, the choices individuals were faced with and decided to act upon and, the treatment of those who had succumbed. The personal choices that some made were extremely unmoral. ââ¬Å"Every day we saw thousands and thousands of innocent people disappear up the chimney. We will write a custom essay sample on Eyewitness Auschwitz or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page With our own eyes, we could truly fathom what it means to be a human being. There they came, men, women, children, all innocent. They suddenly vanished, and the world said nothing .. â⬠An example of an unmoral prisoner was the Kapo Mietek, who was trusted to discipline the working prisoners. According to Muller, it was not necessary for Mietek to treat his fellow prisoners as human beings but rather beat them mercilessly to gain appreciation from the Nazi leaders. Another theme that Muller presents in his testimony is dehumanization of the campââ¬â¢s victims. Approximately seventy percent of the prisoners that arrived at Auschwitz were immediately gassed. Their hair was shaven and their bodies were exploited in order to find valuables for the Naziââ¬â¢s economic gain. A memoir is by definition ââ¬Å"aà recordà ofà eventsà writtenà byà aà personà havingà intimate knowledgeà ofà themà andà basedà onà personalà observationâ⬠. While Filip Mullerââ¬â¢s testimony could be extremely accurate, it could also be extremely flawed. As a prisoner at a death camp-watching people die daily, it can weigh heavily on oneââ¬â¢s conscious. This in turn can alter oneââ¬â¢s memory and/or create an entire new memory that never happened. The validity of Mullerââ¬â¢s memoir could all be a figment of his imagination due to the emotional and physical stress and agony of being a prisoner although I highly doubt that the validity is compromised. ââ¬Å"Eyewitness Auschwitzâ⬠is a key document of the Holocaust. It is published with an association of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, which is highly renown. ââ¬Å"Eyewitness Auschwitzâ⬠is a personal testimony of the hell that resided within the death camps. Filip Muller does an excellent job of describing the daily activities of a Sonderkommando, which few lived to tell about. At times it is extremely difficult to read due to the graphic nature of the text. Muller discusses themes that the entire camp system was set on such as dehumanization and the immorality of the soldiers as well as fellow prisoners. Filip Muller wrote a very powerful book that reaches deep within the reader and wrenches on their emotions.

Biography of Writer and Philosopher John Ruskin
Biography of Writer and Philosopher John Ruskin The prolific writings of John Ruskin (born February 8, 1819) changed what people thought about industrialization and ultimately influenced the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and the American Craftsman style in the US. Rebelling against Classical styles, Ruskin reawakened interest in heavy, elaborate Gothic architecture during the Victorian era. By criticizing the social ills resulting from the Industrial Revolution and disdaining anything machine-made, Ruskins writings paved the way for a return to craftsmanship and all things natural. In the US, Ruskins writings influenced architecture from coast to coast. Biography John Ruskin was born into a prosperous family in London, England, spending part of his childhood in the natural beauty of the Lake District region in northwest Britain. The contrast of urban and rural lifestyles and values informed his beliefs about Art, especially in painting and craftsmanship. Ruskin favored the natural, the hand-crafted, and the traditional. Like many British gentlemen, he was educated at Oxford, earning a MA degree in 1843 from Christ Church College. Ruskin traveled to France and Italy, where he sketched the romantic beauty of medieval architecture and sculpture. His essays published in Architectural Magazine in the 1930s (today published as The Poetry of Architecture, examine the composition of both cottage and villa architecture in England, France, Italy, and Switzerland.Ã In 1849, Ruskin traveled to Venice, Italy and studied Venetian Gothic architecture and its influence by the Byzantine. The rise and fall of Christianitys spiritual forces as reflected through Venices changing architectural styles impressed the enthusiastic and passionate writer. In 1851 Ruskins observations were published in the three-volume series, The Stones of Venice, but it was his 1849 book The Seven Lamps of Architecture that Ruskin awakened an interest in medieval Gothic architecture throughout England and America. Victorian Gothic Revival styles flourished between 1840 and 1880. By 1869, Ruskin was teaching Fine Arts at Oxford. One of his chief interests was the construction of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History (view image). Ruskin worked with the support of his old friend, Sir Henry Acland, then Regius Professor of Medicine, to bring his vision of Gothic beauty to this building. The museum remains one of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic Revival (or Neo-Gothic) style in Britain. Themes in the writings of John Ruskin were highly influential to works of other Brits, namely designer William Morris and architect Philip Webb, both considered pioneers of the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain. To Morris and Webb, the return to Medieval Gothic architecture also meant a return to the guild model of craftsmanship, a tenet of the Arts and Crafts movement, which inspired the Craftsman cottage style home in America. Its said that the last decade of Ruskins life was difficult at best. Perhaps it was dementia or some other mental breakdown that disabled his thoughts, but he eventually retreated to his beloved Lake District, where he died January 20, 1900. Ruskins Influence on Art and Architecture Hes been called a weirdo and manic-depressive by British architect Hilary French, and a strange and unbalanced genius by Professor Talbot Hamlin. Yet his influence on art and architecture stays with us even today.Ã His workbook The Elements of Drawing remains a popular course of study. As one of the most important art critics of the Victorian era, Ruskin gained respectability by the Pre-Raphaelites, who rejected the classical approach to art and believed that paintings must be done from direct observation of nature. Through his writings, Ruskin promoted the Romantic painter J. M. W. Turner, rescuing Turner from obscurity. John Ruskin was a writer, critic, scientist, poet, artist, environmentalist, and philosopher. He rebelled against formal, classical art and architecture. Instead, he ushered in modernity by being a champion of the asymmetrical, rough architecture of medieval Europe. His passionate writings not only heralded Gothic Revival styles in Britain and America but also paved the way for the Arts Crafts Movement in Britain and the United States. Social critics like William Morris studied the writings of Ruskin and started a movement to oppose industrialization and reject the use of machine-made materials- in essence, rejecting the spoils of the Industrial Revolution.Ã American furniture-maker Gustav Stickley (1858-1942) brought the Movement to America in his own monthly magazine, The Craftsman, and in building his Craftsman Farms in New Jersey. Stickley turned the Arts and Crafts Movement into the Craftsman style.Ã American architect Frank Lloyd Wright turned it into his own Prairie Style . Two California brothers, Charles Sumner Greene and Henry Mather Greene, turned it into the California Bungalow with Japanese overtones. The influence behind all of these American styles can be traced back to the writings of John Ruskin. In the Words of John Ruskin We have thus, altogether, three great branches of architectural virtue, and we require of any building,- That it act well, and do the things it was intended to do in the best way. That it speak well, and say the things it was intended to say in the best words. That it look well, and please us by its presence, whatever it has to do or say. (The Virtues of Architecture, Stones of Venice, Volume I) Architecture is to be regarded by us with the most serious thought. We may live without her, and worship without her, but we cannot remember without her. (The Lamp of Memory, The Seven Lamps of Architecture) Learn More John Ruskins books are in the public domain and, so, are often available for free online. Ruskins works have been studied so often throughout the years that many of his writings are still available in print.
